SAYUMI NAKA

What shapes my art

Interesting things that happened nearby, things mysterious yet unnoticed by everyone

Vague childhood memories seen through my own eyes, foreign sweets I wish existed

Plants that feel vaguely familiar, cool poses from old anime and manga

What if I turned my favorite music into colors...

Though everything exists within my mind,

their outlines remain blurred, lingering as soft, hazy images inside me.

They're all subjects confined within a five-meter radius—narrow in a way—

but when filtered through my own lens, they open up an infinitely free and thrilling world.

People who see my art often chuckle, say they feel inspired to draw themselves,

or recall happy memories.

Somehow, that sense of excitement seems to reach them.

I hope people won't overthink it—just look at my paintings, smile, let their imagination run wild,

and feel that thrill." (Sayumi Naka)
