TAKU IBUKI

Creating abstract paintings reminiscent of dramatic symphonies where sound and light boldly intertwine.

Ibuki's abstract expression transcends mere visual composition. He updates established forms of abstract expression—such as postwar Art Informel and Action Painting—by grounding them in the spirit of the present era.

Using the “Kizugawa Art” event held in Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture—also his creative base—as his stage, Ibuki continues to present installation-like works deeply immersed in the local context. Operating factories, commercial facilities, warehouses, spaces steeped in history. Or interactions with the people living there, the atmosphere of the satoyama. He resonates the unique atmosphere and shifting light of these places with his own colors and brushstrokes, expanding the possibilities of painting beyond the canvas into spatial expanses.

These vivid abstract works, suddenly appearing within the everyday, breathe new life into familiar places, drawing viewers into a vivid awareness of “being here, now.”

Ibuki's abstract works powerfully demonstrate that they are not merely a style confined to the canvas, but rather a testament to ongoing dialogue, breathing, and living within society, place, and the people who inhabit them.
