The ‘holes’ woven, knitted, and woven together form an entrance to a world of wondrous imagery.
The world woven by Kazune Hayashi draws its primal landscape from the rich mountains and forests that served as her playground since childhood.
For Hayashi, the acts of “weaving, knitting, and assembling” are not merely technical choices. They are a ritualistic process of reinterpreting, through her own body, the plant roots crisscrossing the mountains and the overlapping tree canopies that filter light. While inheriting the lineage of “Fiber Art” that emerged in the 1960s and '70s, Hayashi's expression reveals a more spatial and organic expansion. When we step inside her massive installations, reminiscent of cells dividing and proliferating, we experience that universe anew.
