Through his innovative approach that effortlessly transcends the traditional framework of lacquerware, Kurimoto continually challenges the new potential of lacquer as a medium for “regeneration of life.”
The materials Kurimoto employs include discarded packaging materials, industrial void pipes, car parts, or natural forms like gourds and stones.
These fragments of daily life, severed from their original purpose and once devoid of value, are reimagined as “vessels for new life.” Through the application of lacquer and decorative techniques, they are reborn as objects, vessels, and accessories.
Their forms breathe with Kurimoto's unique “playfulness”—a spirit that finds new meaning in the ordinary things around us. They possess an endearing, humorous quality, filled with the artist's gentle perspective and affection.
