Tamamoto has consistently reinterpreted universally familiar symbols, natural phenomena, and narratives—such as numbers, letters, the phases of the moon, and Greek mythology—through his own philosophy, creating a unique worldview.
At the core of Tamamoto's work lies an overwhelming sense of materiality achieved by condensing and transforming the soft fabric. Its texture evokes images of human organs, cells, or pulsations, powerfully depicting the “primordial vitality” inherent in women.
Within the lineage of contemporary art, fabric (textile) has often been treated as a material symbolizing physicality and inner life. Tamamoto does not treat fabric merely as a support; using clothing she cherished in her childhood, she treats it as a “skin” onto which she projects her own passions. Layered and meticulously sculpted, this material becomes a “stratum” where one can tangibly feel the experiences, traumas, and raw vitality accumulated within the human interior.
Moreover, the vivid, bewitching colors embedded into its “surface layer” powerfully stimulate the senses, drawing us into an abstract spiritual realm beyond rational explanation. Within its details reside the body's pulse and the primal energy of womanhood, where Eros (life) and Thanatos (death) coexist in a chaotic blend. This “vivid abstraction” is Tamamoto's unique domain, making her work stand out as exceptionally singular within the contemporary art scene.
