MASAHIRO HASEGAWA

Metal sculptor Masahiro Hasegawa creates fantastical lotus gardens using metal as his medium.

The lotus, growing in mud yet never sullied, blooming a pure flower, has long symbolized “enlightenment” and “rebirth” in Eastern philosophy.

Hasegawa's work “Meditative Garden” embodies the resilient materiality of metal and the formless spiritual realm born of meditation. This cycle of opposing worldviews speaks to us of the circularity of “life and death,” “immutability and impermanence,” “matter and spirit.”

Metal, inherently an inorganic, hard material, reveals to us its transformation into vitality and spirituality—gently swaying in the wind, rising from the water's surface.

Hasegawa has energetically pursued installations in diverse spaces: traditional Japanese houses, industrial heritage factory sites, and white cube galleries.

The otherworldly space (Meditative Garden), which profoundly alters its expression within each unique environment, simultaneously demonstrates the potential of metal as a material and redefines craft in the contemporary era, while quietly stirring our souls.
